Dear Berkeley Heights Residents and Businesses,

Each year the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Fire Department look to the Berkeley Heights
community for support. Our dedicated service involves responding to town residential
and business fires, locating lost children, motor vehicle accidents and hazardous
materials incidents.

Seven Facts about
the Berkeley Heights Fire Department

  1. BHFD is 100% volunteer department. Our 35 firefighters often have regular day jobs and
    then on average volunteer 15 hrs/wk at BHFD to serve Berkeley Heights.
  2. BHFD volunteer members are not paid — saving the Berkeley Heights taxpayers
    $2 million annually
  3. BHFD in last four years has responded to 2200 alarms or 1.5 alarms per day
  4. BHFD protects the lives and property of 13,000 residents 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  5. BHFD volunteer members exceed the NJ State required training and state standards
  6. BHFD membership spends 6000 plus hours annually serving Berkeley Heights
    responding to emergencies and assisting the public.
  7. BHFD volunteer members on average are involved in 300hrs/year in training annually for
    hazardous materials, fire, ice, and water rescue.
